Editor’s Note: Join your favorite comedy podcast chumps, Jason and Joel, as they go totally “off script” and take you into the minds of two of the most scatterbrained movie/TV nerds you’ll ever meet with all the shenanigans and tomfoolery you can handle.

From 60s sci-fi cheese and 80s nostalgia, to today’s billion dollar blockbusters and independent unknowns, they’ll bring you the flickering myths like you’ve never heard. Join them for CND (Cinematic Nostalgia Disorder) Theater, the ADD Top 10, and the ever entertaining Trailer Trash. If you don’t give yourself at least one facepalm per episode, they’re not doing their jobs.

This inaugural episode is featured here on Forgotten Flix to get you all hooked.  Think of it as audio crack.  The first one is here and free but the rest of the episodes will be on the new site, and iTunes. (Actually they’ll be free too but you’ll pay for it emotionally.)

Strap in and enjoy.

The Guts

It’s finally here.  The very first episode of Off Script with the boys, Jason and Joel.  In this, their first episode Jason and Joel talk about some of the features of the show and why they’re doing it.  Because, you know, they need to justify this kind of crap.  After giving the 411 on the show, they jump right into a couple of recent movie trailers including Disney’s Lone Ranger starring Johnny Depp and James Wan‘s The Conjuring (which scared the ca-ca out of Jason.) As always, the trailers are included below.

CND Theater

Cinematic Nostalgia Disorder never sounded so ridiculous. Listen to the boys as they amaze and awe you with their unparalleled thespianism skills by reading lines from a classic movie.  If you think you know the movie (that is if you can actually listen to the entire thing), send your guesses in to Jason at  Make sure you put “CND Theater” in the subject line and include the episode number in your guess.  All correct answers will be put into a drawing to be crowned geek of the month.

Hey guys! I’m glad you’re back. I’m liking the new format.

BTW, I tend to agree with Jason. I think The New LONE RANGER is gonna under-perform at the U.S. Box Office. Forget the trailer (which is awful), I don’t think people nowadays give a damn about the character (kinda like SPEED RACER from a few years ago). Also, THE LEGEND OF THE LONE RANGER from 1981 was a bomb itself (I don’t think it EVER made its money back), and we’re 30+ years removed from THAT.

Depp will bring it some attention, and the fact it’s being released around the July 4th weekend will help, but not enough.

Anyway, great first episode. I loved it!

Thanks Dave! Okay, while I concur it’s going to be a silver nitrate turd floating in the proverbial popcorn machine, I still say it will make a surprisingly large amount of bank opening weekend. I don’t normally go in for the belief that “a big name can carry a picture”. In fact, I think that phenomena ended sometime in the 90s. However, Depp is one of the few who does still seem to draw them in. And if (and this is a very, very big if) the movie doesn’t suck a hi-ho silver and get shoddy word of mouth, then I believe it well make north of 250 mil. That’s what my inner Kreskin’s telling me anyway. 😉

Nice first episode….congrats. Agree with Joel on Insidious. First half was strong and then it really fell apart, leading to a really lame ending. Supposedly Wan said he was trying to make the new Poltergeist….watch it through that lens and you see how he realllllly tried to do that.

Rango was another one that starts off with great energy, but agree it got a bit bogged down. Although, I do love that it is just a retelling of Chinatown. Another Verbinski movie that’s pretty good is The Mexican.

    Keep up the good work.

Thanks Dave! New Poltergeist, huh? Yeah, I don’t think so. Good effort and all, but I found Insidious mostly bland and predictable. Same with Wan’s Dead Silence (and that had a killer Ventriloquist’s dummy for God’s sake!). I saw The Mexican when it came out. Don’t remember much about it other than Gandolfini having a good turn as a gay hitman. And Rango was a retelling of Chinatown? Now I HAVE to watch it all the way through. Please tell me there’s a “She’s my daughter! (slap) She’s my sister! (slap) Daughter! (slap) Sister! (slap)” moment, or some facsimile thereof. 😉
