In this episode of The Forgotten Flix Podcast, we’re heading out west… the wild west that is! And while we’re out here, we reckoned we better mosey on up to the town hall and catch us one of them thar new fangled picture shows we been hearing so much about these days.
Well, looky here! We done gone and seen Young Guns (1988) starring Emilio Estevez, Keifer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen, Lou Diamond Phillips, Charlie Seizmasko, Delmot Mulrooney, Terence Stamp, Jack Palance and that perennial favorite of the Forgotten Flix boys, Mr. Terry O’Quinn!
Young Guns tells the tale of John Tunstall, a rancher and collector of “lost boys.” These young men lost their way, but Tunstall offers them a better life. In exchange for their hard work, he provides them with food, shelter, and teaches them the finer points of civilizes life– like reading, writing, and good table manners.
When one wayward youth, a William H. Bonney (aka Billy the Kid), shows up in town, Tunstall invites him to join his redemption ranch. But soon, a crooked, competing rancher named Murphy (played by Jack Palance, seething with all he’s got) decides to “lessen the competition” and has his men kill Tunstall.
Before you can say Bon Jovi (okay, that’s a Young Guns 2 reference, but I had to make it), Bonney and the other boys are deputized. Now called The Regulators and tasked with bringing in the men responsible for their caretaker’s murder. But as the body count rises, the line between law and lawless becomes blurred. And the young guns go from the hunters to the hunted…
