We're talking about the movies YOU grew up with!

Forgotten Flix Podcast: Ep. 012 – Throw Momma From the Train (1987)

In this episode of The Forgotten Flix Podcast, Joel and Jason discuss 1987’s Throw Momma From the Train starring Billy Crystal, Danny Devito, and the sublime Anne Ramsey!

Voice Feedback Number

First, they get into feedback from Twauna, who makes some interesting points about horror films and Superman. Next, they talk Throw Momma From the Train and try to determine how many ways we can use (and abuse) sound bites from the late, great Anne Ramsey as Momma!

Then they get into the “6 Movie Pix” (formerly “6 Must See Movies…”). This week’s theme: Movies set on trains. This theme was inspired more by the title of Throw Momma From the Train than the movie itself, considering there’s only one scene that takes place on an actual train (well, two if you count that kinda creepy “making-out-on-a-kiddie-train” scene).

So, check it out and let us know what you think! You can send your feedback to feedback (at) forgottenflix dot com or leave a voice mail message at the number located beneath the VHS tapes.

Tune in next time when we talk about the Superman franchise with resident Superman expert Darrell.  It’s time for some serious Kryptonite discussion.

Great show, guys! Haven’t seen THROW MOMMA in a whole bunch of years, and I was also mixed on it, but the discussion was great!

Loved the EEGAH reference (though, truthfully, I’ve only seen the MST3K version of the movie)!

BTW, my “HBO Movies” include FLASH GORDON, CADDYSHACK, ARTHUR and THE ROAD WARRIOR. Yeah…I’m pretty old! (oh, and POPEYE).

As for movies set on a train, I liked RUNAWAY TRAIN quite a bit (but, yeah…that poster was EVERYWHERE back then). Another good one that’s a little harder to find is a Japanese import called BULLET TRAIN from 1975. It’s an action/thriller about a high-speed train that has a bomb attached, and if the train slows to below 80 K/HR, the bomb explodes (sound familiar?). It co-stars Sonny Chiba (though his role is pretty brief).

Anyway, awesome show, and lovin’ that it’s now once a week! Take care.

Hi Dave! Thanks for the comments. I read your comment on the show we just recorded (ep.13). I’ve never heard of BULLET TRAIN, but the premise sounds vaguely familiar. 🙂 I’ll definitely try and track it down. Thanks!

With all the Anne Ramsey soundbites and their choice use, I felt like I was listening to the morning radio of my childhood. That would be the Q Morning Zoo which pre-dated me listening to Ron & Ron in the morning. Intentional or not, it was much appreciated.

As for the Eegah reference, thanks (I think) for the “shout-out”. As I usually listen to your podcast while driving, I will just say I’m grateful that I was coming to a stop at the time. On the other hand, as it was the morning, it did wake me up just a little bit more.

I too appreciate the fact that the podcast is coming out weekly now. More than happy to make the time to listen. I hope both of you keep up the good work.

Hi Terry! You are most welcome. You know Mason and the “zoo” are back on Q105 in the mornings. I swear, sometimes when I’m driving, I’ll just close my eyes and reminis…
