If you don’t give yourself at least one facepalm per episode, they’re not doing their jobs.

This inaugural episode is featured here on Forgotten Flix to get you all hooked. Think of it as audio crack. The first one is here and free but the rest of the episodes will be on the new site, OffScriptPodcast.com and iTunes. (Actually they'll be free too but you'll pay for it emotionally.)

Strap in and enjoy.
The Guts
It's finally here. The very first episode of Off Script with the boys, Jason and Joel. In this, their first episode Jason and Joel talk about some of the features of the show and why they're doing it. Because, you know, they need to justify this kind of crap. After giving the 411 on the show, they jump right into a couple of recent movie trailers including Disney's Lone Ranger starring Johnny Depp and James Wan's The Conjuring (which scared the ca-ca out of Jason.) As always, the trailers are included below.
CND Theater
Cinematic Nostalgia Disorder never sounded so ridiculous. Listen to the boys as they amaze and awe you with their unparalleled thespianism skills by reading lines from a classic movie. If you think you know the movie (that is if you can actually listen to the entire thing), send your guesses in to Jason at Jason@offscriptpodcast.com. Make sure you put "CND Theater" in the subject line and include the episode number in your guess. All correct answers will be put into a drawing to be crowned geek of the month.

<itunes:summary>In this episode of The Forgotten Flix Podcast, we're skipping school John Hughes style as we revisit Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)!
IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR LISTENERS: This is the final episode of Forgotten Flix for 2012. Jason and I are taking a two to three-month long hiatus. Why? Well, we've been doing the show for two years now and we don't want things to get stale. So, we're going to take this time to rethink and retool the show. We intend to return in March 2013 with something different and, hopefully, better.
So, don't unsubscribe. We'll send out a couple "micro-podcast" episodes over the next couple months with updates about what you can expect when we return.
We hope you'll rejoin us in the spring!
Directed by: John Hughes

Screenplay by: John Hughes

Starring: Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Mia Sara, Jennifer Grey, and Jeffrey Jones

Synopsis (from Wikipedia): Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a 1986 American coming of age comedy film written and directed by John Hughes.

The film follows high school senior Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick), who decides to skip school and spend the day in downtown Chicago. Accompanied by his girlfriend Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara) and his best friend Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck), he creatively avoids his school's Dean of Students Edward Rooney (Jeffrey Jones), his resentful sister Jeanie (Jennifer Grey), and his parents. During the film, Bueller frequently breaks the fourth wall by speaking directly to the camera to explain to the audience his techniques and thoughts.

Hughes wrote the screenplay in less than a week and shot the film—on a budget of $5.8 million—over several months in late 1985. Featuring many famous Chicago landmarks including the then Sears Tower and the Art Institute of Chicago, the film was Hughes' love letter to the city: "I really wanted to capture as much of Chicago as I could. Not just in the architecture and landscape, but the spirit."

Released by Paramount Pictures on June 11, 1986, Ferris Bueller's Day Off became one of the top grossing films of the year and was enthusiastically received by critics and audiences alike.
This week's movie picks are:
Jason's Pick:

Silence of the Lambs (1991)

Joel's Pick:

Sleepwalkers (1992)

<itunes:summary>In this episode of The Forgotten Flix Podcast, we're talking about Halloween (1978) with fellow podcaster and frequent Forgotten Flix podcast guest host Darrell Taylor of the The Taylor Network!
Directed by: John Carpenter

Screenplay by: John Carpenter and Deborah Hill

Starring: Jaimie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasence, Charles Cyphers, Nancy Loomis, P.J. Soles, and The Shape

Background Info (from Wikipedia): Halloween is a 1978 American low budget independent slasher horror film directed, produced, and scored by John Carpenter, co-written with Debra Hill, and starring Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis in her film debut. The film was the first installment in what became the Halloween franchise. The plot is set in the fictional midwestern town of Haddonfield, Illinois. On Halloween night in 1963, a six year old Michael Myers murders his older sister by stabbing her with a kitchen knife. Fifteen years later, he escapes from a psychiatric hospital, returns home, and stalks teenager Laurie Strode and her friends. Michael's psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis suspects Michael's intentions, and follows him to Haddonfield to try to prevent him from killing.

Halloween was produced on a budget of $325,000 and grossed $47 million at the box office in the United States, and $70 million worldwide, equivalent to nearly $240 million as of 2012, becoming one of the most profitable independent films. Many critics credit the film as the first in a long line of slasher films inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960). Halloween had many imitators and originated several clichés found in low-budget horror films of the 1980s and 1990s. Unlike many of its imitators, Halloween contains little graphic violence and gore. In 2006, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
This week's movie picks are:
Darrell's Pick:

They Live (1988)

Jason's Pick:

Project X (1987)

Joel's Pick:

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)

Well, this brings the 2012 October Spooky Flix Fest to a close. We're taking a week off. Then, we'll be back on 11/14 and we're remembering a childhood favorite, Back to the Future (1985)!

We'll talk briefly (yeah, right!) about the great horror movies we're cover this year. We'll also discuss some of the great guest hosts and super-duper, extra-special surprises we're hiding for you... under the basement stairs...

Oh, and to prove our ability to beg has only improved with age, we're asking, oops sorry, BEGGING for your nomination for the 2012 PODCAST AWARDS!

That's right, it's that time of year again. Last year, the Forgotten Flix faithful stepped up to the plate and got us nominated in the TV/Film category. So, let's see if we can do it again this year folks!

Just go to podcastawards.com and follow the instructions. You can only submit your nomination one time, so the more people who do it, the better our chances!

And if you do nominate us... THANKS! :)

Next week's episode, and the first movie in the 2012 October Spooky Flix Fest is the under-appreciated classic The People Under The Stairs (1990). We'll be joined by guest host and The Forgotten Flix Podcast show-art creator Kevin Spencer!

<itunes:summary>In this episode of The Forgotten Flix Podcast, we're fighting mythical Chinese ghost-demons with Kurt Russell in Big Trouble In Little China (1986)!
With special guest host Kevin Bachelder of Tuning Into Sci-Fi T.V. and The Saturday B-movie Reel podcasts!

Directed by: John Carpenter

Screenplay by: Gary Goldman, David Z. Weinstein, and W.D. Richter

Starring: Kurt Russell, Kim Cattral, and Dennis Dun

Background Info (from Wikipedia): Big Trouble in Little China (also known as John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China) is a 1986 American martial arts comedy film directed by John Carpenter. It stars Kurt Russell as truck driver Jack Burton, who helps his friend Wang Chi (Dennis Dun) rescue Wang's green-eyed fiancee (Suzee Pai) from bandits in San Francisco's Chinatown. They go into the mysterious underworld beneath Chinatown, where they face an ancient sorcerer named Lo Pan (James Hong).

Although the film was originally envisioned as a Western set in the 1880s, screenwriter W. D. Richter was hired to rewrite the script extensively and modernize everything. The studio hired Carpenter to direct the film and rushed Big Trouble in Little China into production so that it would be released before a similarly themed Eddie Murphy film, The Golden Child, which was slated to come out around the same time.

The project fulfilled Carpenter's long-standing desire to make a martial arts film. The movie was a commercial failure, grossing $11.1 million in North America and well below its estimated $25 million budget. It received critically mixed reviews that left Carpenter disillusioned withHollywood and influenced his decision to return to independent film-making. It has become a cult film due to its success on home video.
This week's movie picks are:
Kevin's Pick: Galaxina (1980)

Jason's Pick: Eight Masters (1977)

Joel's Pick: Unlawful Entry (1992)

<itunes:summary>In this episode of The Forgotten Flix Podcast, we're talking Pee Wee's Big Adventure (1985) AND Big Top Pee Wee (1988)! Wait a tic! What's that?!? You say, the boys went on about Pee Wee's Big Adventure for so long that they decided to break this bad boy into a two parter?

Well, it is so. This week it's Part 1 where we focus on the Big Adventure and next week we'll roll out Part 2 when we go under the Big Top with Senor Pee Wee (Can you say Adobe? Adobe!).

Directed by: Randal Kleiser

Screenplay by: Paul Reubens and George McGrath

Starring: Pee Wee Herman, Penelope Ann Miller, Valeria Golino, and Kris Kristofferson

Background Info (from Wikipedia): Big Top Pee-wee is the 1988 American family comedy sequel to the 1985 film, Pee-wee's Big Adventure. The original music score is composed by Danny Elfman. The film is marketed with the tagline "Hero. Lover. Legend."

The Paramount Pictures production was directed by Randal Kleiser and written by Paul Reubens and George McGrath. Paul Reubens also co-produced the film with Debra Hill. Filming locations includeDisney's Golden Oak Ranch in Newhall, California, USA and the auditorium at Hart High School. This was Kleiser's first movie for Paramount since 1978's Grease.

During a 1988 television special, Pee-wee Herman acknowledged the long hours of circus training undertaken by the film's actors and that they spent a year and a half working on the movie. He also humorously compared himself as an actor to James Cagney and Spencer Tracy and ended by saying that Big Top Pee-wee is "at least as good as Police Academy."
This week's movie picks are:
Jason's Pick:

Flight of the Navigator (1986)

Joel's Pick:

Witch Hunt (1994)

<itunes:summary>In this episode of The Forgotten Flix Podcast, we're mulling over the moral conundrum posed by this week's movie: "Wherever you go... there you are."

Jason says it's a statement on man's inability to consider how our treatment of others effects us all on a cosmic scale. Joel replies by belching out the word "bullshit" and calls Jason "John SmallBerries" over and over again in a mocking, sing-song falsetto.

So, you may have guessed from that insipid exchange of intellectual vapidness that this week we're talking about The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984)!

Oh, and did we mention that we're joined by none-other-than the podcasting king and purveyor of B-movie love himself, Kevin Bachelder (Tuning Into Sci-Fi T.V., Saturday B-Movie Reel podcasts)?!?
About this week's movie:
Directed by: W.D. Richter

Screenplay by: Earl Mac Rauch

Starring: Peter Weller, Jeff Goldblum, Ellen Barkin, and John Lithgow

Background Info (from Wikipedia): The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension!, often shortened to Buckaroo Banzai, is a parody science fiction film that was released in 1984. It was directed and produced by W. D. Richter, and concerns the efforts of the multi-talented Dr. Buckaroo Banzai, a physicist, neurosurgeon, test pilot, and rock musician, to save the world by defeating a band of inter-dimensional aliens called Red Lectroids from Planet 10. The film is a cross between the action/adventure and sci-fi film genres, and also includes elements of comedy, satire, and romance.
This week's movie picks are:
Kevin's Pick:

Into the Night (1985)

Jason's Pick:

Arachnophobia (1990)

Joel's Pick:

Southern Comfort (1981)

Next week we're talking about... kill-kill-kill...ma-ma-ma... yep, it's the slasher classic that explores the question, "What wouldn't a mother do for her little boy?" Friday the 13th (1980)!

Apparently, Jason turns into poop tossing primate by day and Joel turns into a slightly used douche bag by night. Oh wait... that's not a curse, that's how we've always been. Nevermind. Because this week we're talking about that fantasy flick from 1985, Ladyhawke!

Directed by: Richard Donner

Screenplay by: Edward Khmara

Starring: Matthew Broderick, Rutger Hauer, and Michelle Pfeiffer

Background Info (from Wikipedia): Ladyhawke is a 1985 fantasy film directed by Richard Donner, starring Matthew Broderick, Rutger Hauer, and Michelle Pfeiffer.

A thief called "The Mouse" escapes the dungeons of medieval Aquila, setting in motion a chain of events that may save or destroy a beautiful woman and a brave captain. The two lovers are doomed to lifelong separation by a demonic curse invoked by the corrupt and jealous Bishop of Aquila: by day Isabeau is transformed into a hawk, while at night Navarre becomes a wolf. Imperius, the monk who betrayed them, has found a way to break the curse, but only if he and the Mouse can get them back into Aquila to face the Bishop.

This week's Movie Picks are:

Jason's Pick:

Excalibur (1981)

Joel's Pick:

The Omen (1976)

Next week we're interviewing special effects artist Hank Carlson, who worked on three of Fangoria Films earliest films (including Mindwarp!). He also spent time working for the famed KNB FX Group on such films as Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992) and Army of Darkness (1992). Join us for an entertaining peek behind the Hollywood film making curtain!

Directed by: George Lucas

Screenplay by: George Lucas (and Gloria Katz & Willard Hyuck - rewrites, but I'm giving them credit as it's the only explanation for why this movie didn't turn out like the prequels.)

Starring: Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Alec Guinness, James Earl Jones/David Prowse, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, and Kenny Baker

Background Info (from Wikipedia): Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, originally released as Star Wars,[3] is a 1977 American epic space opera film,[4] written and directed by George Lucas. It is the first of six films released in the Star Wars saga: two subsequent films complete the original trilogy, while a prequel trilogy completes the six-film saga. It is the fourth film in terms of the series' internal chronology. Groundbreaking in its use of special effects, unconventional editing, and science fiction/fantasy storytelling, the original Star Wars is one of the most successful and influential films of all time.

Set "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away", the film follows a group of freedom fighters known as the Rebel Alliance as they plot to destroy the powerful Death Star space station, a devastating weapon created by the evil Galactic Empire. This conflict disrupts the isolated life of farmboy Luke Skywalker when he inadvertently acquires the droids carrying the stolen plans to the Death Star. After the Empire begins a cruel and destructive search for the droids, Skywalker decides to accompany Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi on a daring mission to rescue the owner of the droids, rebel leader Princess Leia, and save the galaxy.

Needless to say, Jason (thankfully) won out.
