Nightbreed certainly did play in the theaters; I went to see it opening weekend, and then several times afterwards. Nightbreed is an awesome movie, but Cabal is a better book. But, I digress, the opera is called Andrea Chenier, the actual snippet featured in Philadelphia is the aria called La Mamma Morta (the Death Mother), and that particular version was recorded by Maria Callas.
All I can say about the Fly, excellent movie, one of Cronenberg’s best, one of Goldblum’s best performances, which is actually both a curse, and a compliment, I’m sure he’s cursing it from the casting offers that came afterwards. The movie is one of those rare occasions when a remake far exceeds the original in nearly every single way.
By the way, if you actually do an episode around Nightbreed, tease it first, I would really love to send you a few comments, and observations…
Hi Jules! You’re spot on about NB playing in theaters. It was just in and out so quickly it seemed like I didn’t.
I agree about The Fly being one of Cronenberg’s best too. And despite how gory it gets, I think it’s one of his more accessible and mainstream genre movies.
And as for a Nightbreed episode, keep an eye on the show schedule as we get into 2013…
